Under the new Fire Safety Regulatory Reform Order, as a building owner, occupier or employer you have legal obligation to conduct a fire risk assessment of the premises you are responsible for. Failure to comply may invalidate your insurance and you may also face prosecution for non compliance. In some cases you may face a fine and up to 2 years in prison. Your premises may be prohibited from use until you have proven compliance. In cases where your non compliance has lead to death or injury, you may face imprisonment, fine and possibly manslaughter charges.
